Ben, a cat with a difficult fate, ended up on the street after his previous owners simply abandoned him. Lonely and frightened, he wandered around the city for a long time until volunteers noticed him.
It was clear at first glance that Ben had been through a lot. According to veterinarians, he was exhausted both physically and mentally. Weak and withdrawn, he seemed to have lost his faith in people and life. Shelter staff called him “the saddest cat in the world.”

Most likely, before ending up at the shelter, Ben had experienced cruelty—perhaps he had been frightened by dogs or abused by other animals. He trembled at loud noises, froze in place, and refused to eat or drink. He didn’t purr, he didn’t play, he didn’t seek contact — he just sat in the corner, as if he had resigned himself to his fate.
But one of the shelter employees couldn’t remain indifferent to his suffering.

After talking to her husband, they decided to take Ben home. As soon as he crossed the threshold of the new apartment, something incredible happened.
“It seemed as if he understood that this was his last chance to feel love,” recalls the owner. “Just an hour after his arrival, he came to us, allowed us to pet him, and even played — like a little kitten.”

Ben literally came to life before our eyes. From a frightened, withdrawn cat, he turned into a gentle, curious, and warm pet. “He adapted surprisingly quickly. With each passing day, he shows more and more affection — as if he knows he is safe now.”

Later, the woman filmed a short video for the volunteers to show them how their former charge had changed. The sparkle had returned to his eyes, his body was no longer hunched with fear — he slept peacefully, curled up in a ball, hugging his pillow.
Ben is no longer “the saddest cat.” He has found his family. And now he knows that loneliness is a thing of the past.
