Six years ago, Paul Mason weighed almost 450 kg and was virtually bedridden: he hardly left the house, spent his days playing video games, and eating became a way to escape the pain. A documentary was made about his serious condition, which showed the world a lonely 50‑year-old man deprived of the opportunity to lead a normal life.

The turning point was a woman named Rebecca, who saw the film and wrote him a letter. The correspondence turned into feelings, and for the sake of a new life, Paul took on himself — strict diets, daily self-improvement and surgery. In six years, he managed to lose about 305 kg and reduce his weight to about 120 kg.

A sharp decrease in body weight left a mark in the form of sagging skin, which prevented movement, so Paul needed surgery to remove it. Now he looks much different and has a chance for a more active and fulfilling life — his transformation is discussed in publications and comments on materials about his story.
