The situation in Dubai is tense due to the crisis in the region, which has resulted in the cancellation of many international flights. Hundreds of tourists, athletes and media personalities were forced to stay in hotels, awaiting instructions from airlines and consular services on safe repatriation.
Some were able to travel at the last minute: singer Garifalia Kallifoni and Christos Mastoras returned to Athens a few hours before the situation deteriorated sharply. At the same time, players from several clubs, including Partizan and Maccabi athletes, were stranded on the ground due to closed air spaces and limited exit opportunities.
International sports organisations and embassies are working on ways to evacuate and temporarily accommodate those affected. Airlines have offered to cover additional accommodation costs for about one more day, but accommodation and logistics remain a sharp problem as many hotels are fully filled and airports are limited in operation.
Among those staying in Dubai are well – known influencers-Petra Ecclestone, for example, posted a video about the current situation and informed that guests are advised to stay in the accommodation for safety. The consular services, for their part, ask citizens to remain calm and follow official instructions regarding return home and Temporary Assistance.
