A few years ago, one of my friends received a particularly unusual wedding gift from a distant relative. The gift was presented with a mysterious smile and no comment. The object was made of wood, small in size, with several protrusions – it somewhat resembled a combination of a comb and a pad.
At first, everyone recognized it as a kind of ornament. In order not to offend the giver, the friend thanked him and put the gift on a shelf. There he remained for many years, moving with his owner from apartment to apartment, causing perplexity every time he unpacked it. Although no one knew its purpose, for some reason no one decided to throw it away.
Among the friends there were various hypotheses – from a stand for earrings through a brush dryer to a sample of abstract art.
One evening, as we were arranging the old boxes, the puzzling object was encountered again. This time the mystery was finally solved. After taking photos and searching the internet, the answer was found.
It turned out that the mysterious object was a cheese rack – a practical kitchen accessory for holding and cutting cheese without coming into contact with the hands. Simple, functional and undoubtedly unusual.
But the question remains that will probably never be answered: Why was such an unusual object given without any explanation?
