My son came across a small metal mechanism in our garden, and the question immediately arose: what is it? For me, this object turned out to be an amazing bridge to the past — I recognized in it a familiar dynamo that was once placed on bicycle wheels to turn on a flashlight without batteries and wires.

These generators worked simply and ingeniously: as soon as you start pedaling, the light bulb lights up. For children, it was a little magic: the light appeared by itself from movement, and the owner of such a bike was immediately considered almost an adult. Memories of the smell of asphalt, booming night rides, and joyful pride in “my” bike come to life with the sight of this piece of hardware.

Today, such dynamos have almost disappeared: they have been replaced by bright LEDs and batteries. But for many of us, this piece of metal remains a part of childhood — a symbol of freedom, simple pleasures and the first independent adventures.
