“History repeating itself?” Meghan Markle accused of copying Princess Diana’s iconic photos for glossy magazine cover

Meghan Markle has once again caused a stir among royal fans. The Duchess of Sussex appeared on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar’s art issue — and instantly sparked a storm of discussion. The reason is simple: Meghan replicated three iconic looks of Princess Diana, her late mother-in-law, almost frame for frame.

In one of the photos, Markle poses barefoot in a white shirt and black trousers — just like Diana in her legendary 1990s Vogue photo shoot. Another look is a scarlet Balenciaga dress, painfully reminiscent of the red Valentino that Diana wore in Patrick Demarchelier’s photos. And the champagne-colored silk dress was immediately compared by viewers to the one Lady Di wore in David Bailey’s iconic portraits.

Diana’s fans lashed out at Meghan with accusations: “This is obsession,” “It’s creepy that she’s copying her husband’s late mother,” “She’s trying to tie herself to Diana’s legacy at any cost.” But others are convinced that Markle is merely emphasizing the power of the image of a woman who has inspired her for many years. Friends of the family have long claimed that Diana was a true role model for Meghan, both in terms of style and humanitarian work.

The Harper’s Bazaar cover was her first in a long time, and the Duchess seems to have decided to make a big comeback. The only question is: is this a tribute or an attempt to take on someone else’s legacy?
