An unusually pale (possibly albino) sea turtle has been discovered on an island in Queensland.

On one of the Queensland islands, experts noticed a rare newborn sea turtle with an unusual color: it has pale pink skin and a bright orange shell. The turtle swam safely into the sea, but its appearance immediately attracted the attention of local environmentalists and visitors, who shared their photos and impressions on social networks.

Experts suggest that the reason for the unusual color is albinism or a similar genetic condition. It is estimated that albinos are very rare — about one turtle per 100,000, and the survival rate of young individuals is already low: the chances of reaching adulthood are estimated at about 1 in 1,000. These turtles have reduced melanin levels, which impairs vision (affecting the development of the optic nerve), makes it difficult to disguise and makes them more vulnerable to predators and temperature fluctuations.

Local ecologists emphasize that such finds remind of the fragility of marine ecosystems and the importance of protecting turtle nesting sites. This rare phenomenon is fascinating and alarming at the same time: it is important for scientists and the public to monitor the condition of such individuals and, if necessary, take measures to protect them.
