Unknown fragments from the life of Princess Diana that will make you fall in love with her all over again

Princess Diana was not just a member of the royal family—she became a true icon of her time. In the 1980s and 1990s, the paparazzi followed her every move. However, there were moments in her life that were hidden from the public eye. These rare photos allow us to see Diana from a different angle — more personal and human.

In 1994, Diana was photographed at a ski resort in Austria with her sons William and Harry. The carefree photos capture not the princess, but the loving mother. At that time, her famous engagement ring had already caused controversy — Diana had chosen it from a catalog, breaking with tradition. After her death, the ring passed into the hands of Kate Middleton.

During the wedding, she was so excited that she mixed up Prince Charles’ name. And the hem of her dress, which was over 7 meters long, turned out to be crumpled — a mistake by the designers. According to Diana’s brother, the tiara she wore caused her severe headaches. Even in the early stages of their relationship, there were warning signs: when asked about love, Charles replied evasively, “What does it mean to be in love anyway?”

To keep the design of the dress a secret, the designers destroyed all the sketches. The gifts for the newlyweds were impressive in their luxury: from porcelain compositions to collectible whiskey and watches. It later turned out that Diana and Charles were distant relatives, descendants of Henry VII.

The honeymoon passed quietly: the couple simply relaxed on a Mediterranean cruise. Soon Diana learned about Charles’ gift to Camilla—a bracelet with initials, which was a painful discovery for her. Archival photos from 1980 show Diana before she became famous—an ordinary young girl.

In 1997, Diana personally supported landmine victims in Angola, cementing her reputation as a humanitarian leader. A few weeks before the tragedy, she was photographed with Dodi Al-Fayed during a yacht vacation in France.

She did not hide her warm attitude towards children – in one of the photos, Harry sticks his tongue out from the palace balcony. Her relationship with her stepmother, Rain Spencer, was also difficult, although there are some peaceful photos of them together. Other photos show Diana on the beach in a leopard-print swimsuit, on the streets of Australia in a light dress, and holding her newborn son William in 1982.

Their engagement in 1981 caused a sensation, as did the wedding dress itself, which was the subject of much admiration. Before walking down the aisle, Diana looked stunning, despite her difficulty walking. The public enthusiastically welcomed the couple as husband and wife—their first kiss became a symbol of a new beginning.

The portrait at Kensington Palace in 1984 reflects the family idyll, as do the subsequent photos with the children. In a rare photo, the young Diana poses with her beloved pony — a touching childhood memory. The whole family gathered at William’s christening in 1982, and later Diana smiled at people directly from the car — sincerely and warmly. The portrait with William from 1983 became another gem in her photographic chronicle.

And finally, it was this photo that won the hearts of millions of people around the world — the image of Diana, which is still considered her most beautiful portrait and continues to appear on magazine covers.
