A little cat named Coralia was admitted to the Best Friends shelter in Salt Lake City. Blind since birth, she remained surprisingly sociable and affectionate. To ease her pain, veterinarians had to remove her eyes, after which Coraline and another blind cat went to a foster family for rehabilitation.

In her new home, the kitten quickly got used to life without sight. She learned to navigate her surroundings by memorizing the location of furniture and jumped down without fail, relying on her hearing and sense of smell. When Coraline’s health was fully restored, she found a permanent home, where she met a friendly dog named Rocky.

Rocky was initially surprised by the unusual cat’s behavior, but soon a strong friendship developed between them. They played together, fought over toys, and had fun. Coraline’s owner picked out special toys that make sounds to help her find her way around. The Best Friends shelter, where this story began, has a big goal: to completely stop the killing of animals in US shelters by 2025, calling on the public to support their mission.
