The woman decided to take it home anyway, gave it a name and warmth.

He sat in the corner with his tail tucked between his legs and didn’t look at people.
The staff said that the dog had been taken several times, but everyone brought him back: he howled at night, scratched the walls, and sat by the door as if waiting for someone.
The woman felt sorry for him and decided to take a chance.
She brought him home, named him Rex, bought him a soft bed, and fed him better than she fed herself.
The first few days were calm, but on the fourth day, he suddenly ran away.
The door was left ajar, so she ran after him, but he was already gone.
For three days, she put up posters, called shelters, and searched social media.
On the fourth day, she saw a post in a local group — the photo showed her dog sitting near an old ruined house on the outskirts of the village.
She rushed there.
When she arrived, her heart sank — the dog was sitting on the doorstep, whimpering quietly.
And nearby, in the grass, stood a crooked cross with a sign: “Maxim. 9 years old.”
Later it turned out that this boy was Rex’s former owner.
He had died in an accident three years ago.
After that, the dog was taken to a shelter, where he had been waiting all this time to return to the place where he had last seen him.
The woman cried as she sat next to the dog at the grave, and then she promised:
