After a complex operation, doctors successfully separated conjoined twins—sisters.

When Nima and Dawa were born, doctors were unsure whether these conjoined twins would survive. The girls were joined at the chest and abdomen, and faced a complex operation on which their lives depended. At 14 months old, the babies were taken from Bhutan to Melbourne, where a team of surgeons at the Royal Children’s Hospital performed a six-hour operation to separate their bodies. It was a true miracle of modern medicine, as the doctors not only saved their lives but also gave them the chance for a happy future.

Today, Nime and Dave are seven years old and living full lives. Each of them is developing her own interests, personality, and habits, but their bond remains as strong as ever. The girls are in second grade, laughing, playing, and growing up to be healthy and active children. Their mother, Bhumchu Zangmo, admits that she is incredibly proud of her daughters and thanks the doctors who gave them a chance at life every day.

In recent photos and videos, Nima and Dawa look happy and confident. This year, they decided to celebrate their birthday in a special way — not with a noisy party, but by visiting a local temple, where they and their mother brought food to elderly people. For the family, this act became a symbol of gratitude and awareness, because every minute of their lives is a celebration filled with warmth and kindness.
