The incredible journey of conjoined twins who had their brain tissue separated during a risky operation! See what they look like now!

Sisters Minal and Mirha, born in Pakistan last year, came into the world under unusual and dramatic circumstances. The girls were conjoined twins, sharing blood vessels and parts of their brain tissue—a condition that made any attempt to separate them extremely risky. Despite this, an international team of surgeons decided to take the risk and give the sisters a chance at an independent life.

On July 19, a crucial operation was performed at Bilkent City Hospital in Ankara. Led by British neurosurgeon Professor Noor-ul-Hossain Gilani, a team of leading specialists worked for more than 14 hours. This delicate procedure required absolute precision, as the slightest mistake could endanger the girls’ lives. Every moment was planned down to the smallest detail, and the cooperation of the surgeons was crucial to the success of the separation.

The preparation was no less innovative than the operation itself. The doctors used advanced mixed reality technology that combines 3D visualization with the real world. Detailed MRI scans were used to create a digital model of the twins’ heads, allowing the surgeons to rehearse the procedure in advance, minimizing the risks during the operation itself.

Two months later, Minal and Mirha are recovering remarkably quickly. Professor Gilani assesses their condition as “excellent” and expects them to be able to return home to Pakistan soon. The successful separation not only gives the girls a chance at a normal childhood, but also demonstrates how far modern pediatric neurosurgery has come. This operation clearly shows how innovative technology and human experience, when combined, can work wonders and change lives.
